Report of the Executive Secretary

The Board was quite active during the year and passed a number of resolutions. At the meeting in Crete motions were passed:

- allowing for expenses for officers attending meetings to be partially covered,
- allowing the Board to vote by email,
- that ISBA take over the administration of the Savage Fund,
- a committee was formed to consider the start of a new ISBA journal.

Several resolutions were also passed by email:
- a new set of Bylaws was approved,
- ISBA has taken over the admministration of the new DeGroot and Lindley Prizes.

The Executive Secretary ran an online competition for the selection of a new ISBA logo. ISBA received 22 entries and two online votes were conducted to select a winner. The winning logo was designed by Petros Dellaportas.

This year the election was also conducted online. Only 7 ballots were mailed by ordinary mail and only 1 was received by ordinary mail. Overall 147 ISBA members voted. This participation rate is about the same as in previous elections. There were no complaints received about this approach to voting. Given the convenience and cost of this procedure (no cost in future and only $200 this year) the Executive Secretary recommends that this be adopted for future elections as well.

An online Board Diary and Schedule has been set up on the website under ISBA Business - Officers and Committee. As the year proceeds the Executive Secretary can keep a diary here of what activities the Board and Executive Committee has been engaged in; e.g. what motions have been passed etc. Perhaps more importantly a schedule for the upcoming year should also be maintained so that various officers are aware of important aspects of their jobs and when these should be completed. The life of ISBA is becoming increasingly complicated as we take on new activities. Without something like this, maintained by the Executive Secretary, to keep everybody on track I think things will become disorganized. I will pass control of this page over to the incoming Executive Secretary. This still needs some dates to be added as detailed at the start of the Schedule for 2001.

A new Brazilian ISBA Chapter began in August.
