Update on the Refereed Proceedings of ISBA2000 The Sixth World Meeting of ISBAWhile attending ISBA 2000, I accepted the invitation by John Geweke, the ISBA Publications Committee Chair, to be the Editor of a refereed volume of papers presented at the meeting. Eurostat, who co-sponsored ISBA2000, had generously agreed to publish and distribute such a volume and to provide all current members of ISBA with a complimentary copy. With the help and advice of Steve Fienberg, John Geweke and Mike Evans, I proceeded to decide on a timetable and formatting requirements. I then put together a team of Associate Editors consisting of Deborah Ashby, M.J. Bayarri, Alicia Carriquiry, Mike Cohen, Gauri Datta, Daniel Defays, Petros Dellaportas, Mike Evans, Steve Fienberg, Alan Gelfand, John Geweke, Luis Pericchi, Mark Steel. (When the number of submissions exceeded our earlier estimates, Brad Carlin and Merlise Clyde were added later to help with the load. Pantelis Vlachos at CMU was also added to help with formatting issues and final preparations). I then proceeded to email an announcement on 6/16/2000 to all who attended ISBA2000 requesting submissions. At the same time, I had Mike Evans post an announcement on the ISBA Wesbsite under ISBA 2000 Proceedings. Both of these announcements, which appear on the following two pages, provide details about submission requirements and how we would proceed. In particular, all submissions were to made via email. They were to be prepared using a modified version of the Latex macros created by Jose Bernardo for the Valencia volume. However, an optional set of simplified Latex macros was made available for users who had trouble with the Bernardo macros. All macros were posted at the website. We received a total of 67 submissions. Of these, 58 have been accepted, and I'm waiting for minor revisions on 3 more that have been conditionally accepted, for a total of 61 papers. Next week, I plan to do a final edit of all papers, and to have Steve Fienberg designate some secretarial help at CMU, to begin final formatting of all the accepted papers. This will entail some reformatting of all the papers that used the simplified Latex macros. Once that is done, I will prepare a camera ready copy of the entire volume and ship it off to Eurostat who will take it from there. (My Eurostat contact for this is Ewa Wadolkowska,ewa.wadolkowska@eurogramme.lu, www.eurogramme.lu). One final issue which is still to be decided is a name for the volume. I plan to ask the editorial board for input on this before a decision is made.
Email Announcement Sent to all ISBA2002 participants sent on 6/16/2000 Dear ISBA 2000 Participants, Eurostat, who co-sponsored ISBA 2000, has generously agreed to publish and distribute a refereed volume of papers presented at ISBA 2000. All current members of ISBA will receive a complimentary copy of the volume courtesy of Eurostat. This volume represents a big step forward for ISBA and has the potential to greatly increase ISBA's visibility and impact. All participants who presented a paper at ISBA 2000 are invited to submit those papers to the ISBA 2000 volume. The submission instructions below can also be found on the ISBA website http://www.bayesian.org/ . No distinction will be made between oral presentations and poster presentations. Because there is a 10 page limit, we expect that some papers will be skeletal versions of expanded papers that will be published elsewhere. This is perfectly acceptable. The Editorial Board for the ISBA2000 volume will be Deborah Ashby; Susie Bayarri; Alicia Carriquiry; Mike Cohen; Gauri Datta; Daniel Defays; Petros Dellaportas; Mike Evans; Steve Fienberg; Alan Gelfand; Ed George (Editor); John Geweke; Luis Raul Pericchi; Mark Steel. If you are planning to submit a paper to the volume, it would be helpful if you could respond to this message. This will not obligate you to submit, but will simply help me in planning and resource allocation. I strongly encourage you to submit your work to this volume, and very much look forward to receiving your submission. Cheers, Ed George Editor of the ISBA2000 volume SUBMISSION INTRUCTIONS: All papers will be refereed. If you submit a paper, you must agree to serve as a referee for another paper in the volume. Also, we encourage you to suggest the names of others who would be well suited to referee your submission. The entire editorial process will be electronic. Submissions must be sent by email to ISBA@bus.utexas.edu by July 15, 2000. All correspondence will take place via email. Submissions must be postscript or pdf files that have been prepared using the latex macros found out at: http://www.stat.cmu.edu/ ~vlachos/ISBA . The length of a submitted paper, including tables, graphs and references, may not exceed 10 pages. If a revision is requested, the deadline for submission of final drafts will be November 15, 2000.
